Spring has arrived and that means for the less hardy amongst us it is the weather is warming up sufficiently to tackle some woodworking projects. Read on as we look at just a few of the springtime projects that are sure to keep you inspired.
Planters and troughs
Spring means getting your garden sorted which makes planters and troughs a great and practical project to tackle in the spring. Think about the type of plants that you may be considering adding to your garden and don’t forget to take into consideration things like their height and spread when creating planters and troughs to accommodate them. You could create individual planters, or interlocking ones that will help you to create a more striking arrangement in your garden.
Bird house
Another great, and relatively simple project to undertake this spring is a bird house. There are plenty of different instructions online to help you pick a project that will work for you. All you will really need to think about is where you might place it in your garden. Remember to consider the safety of your birdhouse when placing it, you want to avoid anywhere that cats can access it.
Bird table
Like bird houses, bird tables make a great spring project and this one is ideal for those just starting out. Again you will find plenty of different instructions on line to help you create your desired bird table. Just remember to ensure that you leave a way for water to flow off the table. Otherwise, you will quickly find yourself with mouldy seeds that need cleaning off.
Garden bench
There really is no better way to enjoy your garden than to sit outside with a cup of your chosen hot beverage, which leads us to our next springtime woodworking suggestion; the humble garden bench. There are plenty of choices when it comes to garden benches, whether you want to tackle a simple bench, a joined bench and table combination or something a little more complicated like an Adirondack chair.
The latter are currently a very popular choice with those who enjoy sitting out in their gardens.
If you do decide to just tackle the simple bench as a project, you could always add a small coffee table later on to complete the project.
A potting bench
Another great spring addition to the garden is a potting bench and, as a relatively easy project to undertake yourself, there seems little need to purchase a mass-produced potting bench. Once you have the basic shape of your potting bench you could customise it with shelves, boxes and places to store those items you might need for potting your plants and seedlings.
A picnic bench
If you like the idea of some form of outdoor seating but you prefer to be able to have your meals outside when the weather improves then a picnic bench with attached seating is a good project to tackle. This is a bit of a bigger undertaking than the rest of the projects we have mentioned but a very practical one.
