Get More Out of Your Garden with these Woodwork Projects 20.07.2020

The British summer may not offer the best weather forecast, but it’s still a perfect time to spend more time outside and enjoy the summer months. Your garden is often a great place to spend some time with family and friends. However, if your garden is looking a little tired or you feel you could make better use of the space, pick up your woodworking machinery and get stuck into a new project!

Whether you’re a professional or you’re new to woodworking, you can try your hand at a number of these projects and watch your garden be transformed.

Birdhouse

Attract some wildlife to your garden by building a birdhouse and placing it on your grass or hanging from a tree. A birdhouse can be made quite easily, without needing access to a full sized workshop. Make sure you check the dimensions and size of where you’ll be placing it before building.

Once you’ve finished it, get creative with staining, painting or other decorative features that might attract the birds to your garden. For the final touch, why not hang some extra bird feed nearby?

Garden bench

If you don’t already have garden furniture or you’d like some additional pieces, why not make yourself a garden bench and save yourself a trip to the furniture shop? Your family will get so much use out of a garden bench, especially when the sun comes out.

It can be one of the most rewarding pieces of wooden furniture to make, especially if you master a more intricate design. Remember to smooth your bench after building for ultimate comfort, and choose a wood that suits your garden perfectly.

Coffee table

To go with your newly made bench, a wooden coffee table could be the perfect addition, allowing you to enjoy a drink or some food while sitting outside. Depending on the space you have available, build a full size coffee table or simply just a side table for next to your bench.

When you’re done, you’ll have a great set of outdoor furniture to take advantage of!

Planter or trellis

If you have green fingers and love watching your garden flourish, try your hand at building a new planter or trellis. This is a great way of making use of spare space, no matter how big or small. You have the choice to make your planter as long or as wide as you like, while your trellis can be as high as you can reach if you like.

Think about what you plan to grow in your planter or trellis, as this could impact where you place it once it’s finished.
